Playing Poker – Tips to Success
Many of us have decided to try poker, wondering on how it would be and such, only to find that the masters of the game make you look even worse than new starters. We wish we were like them, controlling the game with ease. When actually, it is simple to be like them, if not even beat them at their own game. This article presumes you have some knowledge of the basics of playing poker, if not feel free to take a quick moment to read up on the absolute basics. So here are 6 great tips to help you become the poker elite:
1. Losing is as important as Winning
Playing poker is not just about winning as much as you can; it’s also about reducing losses. This is why you have to make sure that as soon as it becomes clear that your hand is poor, fold. Reduce your losses and come back again.
2. Reading The Hand
A great tool to use whilst playing poker is your eyes. Look and examine each person. By this, look at the way each person holds their cards. A strong, non moving hand shows relaxation, where as shaking hands shows anxiety, in which the person is probably excited to play their hand, showing a strong hand.
3. Patterns to Betting
Another great way to make use of your eyes is to study how a person makes bets, for example, a player who has been re-raised, folding, showing being afraid to lose.
4. Control the Bluff
A key element to poker is bluffing. In this, each player reads others emotions and expressions. So something that will definitely give you the upper hand is controlling your own emotions. Avoid expressions that seem too extraordinary, such as smiling whilst looking at your own cards. Act normal, play your bluff acting normal as well.
5. Spotting Others
Always watch other players, in particular, when it is their turn. Try to read their habits, and separate the stronger players from the weaker ones, setting your targets. Look also at expressions and emotions, to try and work out which player is likely to be bluffing.
6. Motivation
Whilst playing poker, it can be easy to go off what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. But always remember, you’re here to win. Try not to remember what is on stake, but if that helps motivate you, by all means use it. Motivation is key.
While this may not take you straight up there, you can certainly be sure to play your next game with confidence.
